This might be the first movie based on a viral youtube clip, at least that I'm aware of. Which viral youtube clip, you ask? Well, for those of you living in an Internet cave, we're talking about the legend of Epic Beard Man!
Yes, some studio executive saw this short clip of an old vet with anger issues and thought "That would be a GREAT movie!" Furthermore, dude said "And DANNY TREJO will be the epic beard man!" The result? Well, the movie hasn't even come out yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be amazing. Not because it's going to be such a great, well-acted film, but because it WON'T BE! I love really good, really bad movies and this is going to be a REALLY good REALLY bad movie!
The Epic Beard Man saga is so much more than just that amazing clip. To understand why "Badass" became a movie, you have to understand why Epic Beard Man became a legend.
I kind of hope this is only the beginning of full-length feature films being produced, based on viral youtube celebrities. Cuba Gooding Jr. as Tay Zonday, Jim Carrey in "I'm a Banana", Pixar presents "Nyan Cat 3D!" Tim Burton's "Llamas With Hats". I mean, seriously, Hollywood might be onto something here. In the meantime, here's more Epic Beard Man.
